Children’s jersey clothing

Dates:

Venue: Youth in Romsey (map).

Time: 10am – 4pm

Cost: £30 (plus pattern costs if you want to take it away)

Details:

This is an opportunity for those fairly new to sewing, or those who want to improve their skills, to learn how to use a commercial dressmaking pattern. You will make up to 2 simple garments – see below for some examples of options. Details of what to bring are further down, however, if you have any questions then please ask.

This workshop is aimed at those wanting to make for small children. I’m hoping to offer a small range of patterns, from which you can choose to make two. Children’s clothing uses smaller amounts of fabric, often leaving a remaining piece. I hope to show you how to be economical and learn to use up remnants and even upcycle from existing clothing. The start up might be a bit more expensive but check out the ‘Team Waves and Wild‘ facebook group and see how resourceful many sewers are!

If you wish to take the pattern away I do have to charge for the pattern and printing costs (prices can be seen by clicking the links below, and printing is £1.50 per sheet of A0 paper – I know this is confusing but I can be more specific later), but the companies allow me to use the pattern at the workshop at no cost to you if I keep the patterns.

To Book

Please email Jan G: Jan.sewromsey@gmail.com or call 07753261300 to book a place and for payment details.

Payment and refund policy

A £10 deposit is required to secure your place and is non refundable should you wish to cancel. Please make full payment of £30 by Saturday 5th November 2022 (or one week before the workshop), and note it is non refundable after this time. Failure to make full payment by this date will mean your place is offered on. However, you may transfer your booking onto another person at anytime before the workshop date. In the unlikely event there are insufficient bookings for the course to be viable I will notify you by Thursday 10th November (or 2 days prior to the workshop) and refund all course fees immediately.

Fabric Requirements

A detailed list will be provided when you book but I expect most garments can be made out of 1m of 150 cm wide fabric, cotton French terry and Cotton lycra jersey is ideal for children’s clothing. There are many online sellers who print unique and colourful fabrics, but needless to say they can be pricey. I recommend buying from Pound fabrics , as they offer lovely designs and are very good quality and good value. I want to offer this workshop as cheaply as possible for everyone so if you let me know your fabric choices 2 weeks before the workshop I can order from Pound fabrics together to reduce postage costs.

You will need matching thread.
