Child or Adult Hoodie workshop – using stretch fabrics

Date:

Venue: Youth in Romsey (map).

Time: 10am – 4pm

Cost: £40 (to include a copy of the pattern)

Details:

This is an opportunity for those fairly new to sewing, or those who want to improve their skills, to learn how to use a commercial dressmaking pattern. You will make a hoodie, for an adult or child; see below for some examples of options. (Please advise if you’d rather make an adult or child one when you book so the correct pattern can be supplied). Details of what to bring are further down, however, if you have any questions then please ask.

To Book

Please email: Jan.sewromsey@gmail.com  or call 07753261300 to book a place and for payment details.

Payment and refund policy

A £10 deposit is required to secure your place and is non-refundable should you wish to cancel. Please make full payment of £40 by Saturday 1st May (one week before the workshop), and note it is non-refundable after this time. Failure to make full payment by this date will mean your place is offered on. However, you may transfer your booking onto another person at any time before the workshop date. In the unlikely event there are insufficient bookings for the course to be viable I will notify you by Thursday 6th May (2 days prior to the workshop) and refund all course fees immediately. Please advise the pattern you require when booking.

Prior knowledge required

You will be able to:

  • Use a sewing machine and be able to stitch fairly accurately
  • ALL other skills will be taught at the class

What to bring:

Sewing machine if you have one – I have some to use but it makes sense to become familiar with your own.

Sewing equipment – I bring everything we will need but you might like to bring basic sewing things you have. Suggestions can be found here.

Matching thread is needed for both hoodies.

Fabric for child hoodie – Knit fabric for body sleeves and hood. I suggest medium weight jersey, interlock or stretchy french terry. Using regular sweatshirt fleece may make it difficult to get over head. AMOUNT NEEDED of 150cm wide – 0.70m for sizes 0-3M to 2-3years. 1metre for sizes 3-4 to 5-6years , 1.5m for 6-12 years. Knit fabric for cuffs hood lining and pocket lining – you could upcycle a t.shirt or other knitted garment for this. A medium weight, cotton/elastane blend jersey is suggested. A rib knit will work as well. The cuffs and lower band could be made from the same as the outer fabric, AMOUNT NEEDED- 0.5 yards for all sizes A good local store is fabricland in Southampton. I can help with sourcing fabric if needed.

Fabric Requirements for the adult hoodie.

Coffee, tea and biscuits are provided but please bring your lunch.

If you prefer a more slouchy style we make a size or two bigger.
